Caregiver Stress: Stress arousal is often the first sign that a family caregiver is not getting the physical, emotional and spiritual support that they need. Caregiver stress has a significant impact on the health and wellness of caregivers.
Caregiver Burnout: Is a state where highly committed individuals lose their spirit because they are on emotional overload and completely exhausted. Caregiving no longer feels meaningful. It is a state of physical, emotional and mental exhaustion.
Compassion Fatigue: The exposure to and preoccupation with the suffering of another person creates high levels of emotional stress, despair and secondary traumatic stress for family caregiver.
The Red Flags in the Caregiver Stress Continuum:
As a caregiver it is important to be aware of the signs that you are stretching thin. It is also very important to take time to know yourself because what is normal for you may not be normal for someone else and vice versa.
